Doctoral and academic research into form, material and the machines that build them.
Our research asks how computation changes the construction process itself, not only how it makes it faster. At its centre is doctoral work on funicular vaults raised without single-use falsework, and around it a body of studies on earth, ceramics, living structure and climate.
Every study is modelled, analysed and, wherever possible, tested at physical scale.
What we offer
Research partnerships with practices and manufacturers
Feasibility studies for novel structures and materials
Research into raising funicular vaults without single-use falsework. A cable net laid flat on the ground is reeled into sag and lifted into form by columns, its geometry found through thrust network analysis and its whole sequence rehearsed in software before it is built.

Tierra Tower
Climate-responsive student housing in rammed earth dug from its own site. The tower rises fourteen storeys and reaches thirty metres below ground, so the excavation becomes part of the building's performance: thick earth walls absorb, store and release heat through the seasons, and the thermally stable ground tempers the whole.

Sagrada Flora
A reimagining of the sacristy of the Sagrada Família through Gaudí's geometry. A hyperbolic column spirals upward through openings shaped by paraboloids, each sized and turned by its exposure to the sun, and planted with Catalan species, some endangered and some linked to Gaudí himself.

Dome-estic
A community system in which organic waste becomes structure. Bamboo is grown in place and shaped into domes; composting turns waste into soil and biogas; biochar from decayed bamboo is cast with cement into breathable, carbon-storing charcrete shells, and each dome grows over seven years into a climate-responsive home.
